is a free service open to the entire community - kind of like a book library. Like a book library, you borrow items for a period of time and then return them to the Play & Learn. There are a wide variety of educational preschool toys.
The Toy Library was created so that we could provide the community with a range of developmentally appropriate toys that give children an opportunity to grow and learn through play.
by coming to Kiwanis Hilton Children's Centre to sign up. You will need to sign a borrowing agreement and provide some identification, your address and phone number so that we can contact you for a toy request or to remind you to bring your items in.
Parents, Grandparents, caregivers, and community professionals are all welcome to borrow toys.
Most of them are specialized educational toys not typically found in regular stores. There are puzzles, manipulative toys, fine and gross motor, imaginative, creative, early literacy and numeracy toys. We even have a large wagon and kitchen play set that can be loaned to you. We also have a few music CD's and movies. Your child will benefit from a lot of different play experiences and you do not have the cost of buying the toys or trying to find a place to store them. When you are done, simply bring them back.
We will inspect the toys, clean them and get the toys ready for the next child.
The best way to make sure that the library is open for you is by calling ahead to the main office at 250-723-7345. The staff work part time, so it is best to call a day or two ahead of time to arrange a time that works well for them and works well for you.
to help run, catalogue and organize the library. Help is always welcome, and we appreciate any time you can spare. Please call 250-723-7345 for more information and your name will be passed on to someone who will coordinate a time to introduce you to the Toy Library.
All volunteers in the Play & Learn Library will be screened and asked to undergo a criminal record check.
